I’ve been off the martial arts trip for a while, haven’t been teaching a class for a couple years, but with Covid locking many of us down, I’ve decided to start uploading some “Kali practice for the solo practitioner” videos. Somebody requested that I do more knife videos, which I’m a little conflicted about, so I decided to compromise with some Balisong manipulation stuff. I’ll be doing a lot ...

I trained with Leon Jay for a while, and finger locks are so effective and painful. No wonder small joint attacks are illegal in the UFC and other combat sports as it would be a quick tap or just very difficult to grapple or strike with a broken finger.

Thank you! Knife videos all tell you all the shit about how theoretically you can use knife X for self-defense. How slicey it is and how you can use this feature of the blade to stab your assailant. All the while completely ignoring the fact that a knife fight is first and foremost a violent fight. Nobody walks away from any fight unscathed and in a knife fight, you are gonna get cut and or stabbed. Martial arts is supposed to ultimately teach you responsible self-defense, not about being a badass. Thanks for speaking truth!!!

Strange how Vunak pushes this mixture of different arts but Bruce Lee didn’t. Bruce Lee didn’t do thai boxing. Bruce Lee stopped doing trapping. Inosanto’s JKD concepts is NOT Bruce Lee’s JKD. This video is an example of the classical mess Bruce Lee talked about avoiding. Sloppy, indirect overly complicated and inefficient.

@axelstone3131 - Let's see, using a handful of tools in service of getting to trapping range to finish it. I'd sat that adheres nicely to the quote you posted. Next.
